Drama as a Hobby

Acting out dramas is a practice that started a long time ago, and an ancient drama was an exaggerated process than it is now. The term drama meant "action" and it could mean a number of things.

Dramas are now known as one sort of acting, but that wasn't the original intent. The drama styles used in films and theatrical productions now are a lot different than the styles used in ancient times.

The concept of acting out a story may have originated with the Greeks. They are the most famous civilization for the kind of dramatic action which is most commonly known today. In Greek theatre, there were three different types of dramatic acting.

The first was a comedy, which was any story with a happy ending, usually meaning that the characters did not die in the drama. This was quite entertaining for the Greeks of the day. The second type of drama was a tragedy.

This, of course, meant that one or more of the characters in the story died. This was one of the most common forms of drama. The third kind of drama was satire. Satirical plays were usually parodies of current political or otherwise popular figures. Those plays were probably much like the Saturday Night Live series of today.

The effect of drama had a far-reaching impact; much further than just about anything else that came from Greece. When drama reached other countries, over time they each added their particular flair to it. In Europe, things like opera, puzzles, and also the typical formula for Shakespearian plays were invented. Places such as Japan and India developed the concept of combining dancing and acting together.

Modern drama is so diverse it is difficult to study all the various kinds at once. Of course, there's the more traditional type of drama, the theatrical play; then there are more contemporary dramas, like the TV drama, and movie dramas. While historical theatrical plays were over-acted, in contemporary drama, realism is prized.

The drama acting skill that is most coveted by celebrities and actresses now are the portrayals of different kinds of characters and emotions. About eighty years ago, awards started being given for the best actors and actresses. Some different awards were added around that time and later as well.

The skill of contemporary drama is quite prized in contemporary society. Most top actors and actresses earn a great deal of money, more so than the honored occupations of soldiers and healthcare professionals. There are many different acting schools, and almost every college has a drama department of some kind. Since its conception, acting and drama have always been a major part of people's lives. The cause of this may be that people like to see things that could happen to them, but probably never would.

The drama industry has capitalized on this fact. That's part of the reason why acting and movies are so important to people today, just as striking theatrical productions in ancient times.
