Listening to music as a Hobby

Music is a set of sounds and silences, organized in a logical way, which is governed by a series of laws
such as harmony, rhythm and melody, making use of the sensitivity that characterizes the human
being with respect to emotion and perception of artistic elements. This term comes from the Greek
word "uouotk?" (mousiké), which can be translated as "the art of the muses". Certainly, music has a
mostly spiritual and emotional connotation, so its complexity has only increased throughout history,
because it has not been able to define what it really represents, beyond the current use that is given.

In times of Ancient Greece, it was considered that music could not exist without the company of
poetry (or lyrics ) or dance, as it was quite common for women who fulfilled these functions to be
invited at celebrations organized by senior of?cials. Seeing that there was an important harmony
between the three disciplines, the belief that they were created so that one accompanied another
was imposed. However, in later times, this was declining and new conceptions about the art of music
were introduced.

The music is traditionally arranged to generate pleasant sensations to those who hear it, that is, it
has a rather remarkable aesthetic purpose, but this can not be possible if all its elements are not
united in a logical way. This is a characteristic that is maintained in diverse cultures, although the
conventions under which the melodies are composed are not the same, so it can be said that, like all
art, music is universal. At the cultural level, music can represent the history of an entire nation and
its customs; it is one of the components of the common life of a society.

Some experts say that when producing music with instruments, new neurological connections can be
developed that bene?t the cognitive process and collaboration between both hemispheres would be
much easier. This is because the concentration that must be had, added to the control of the extremities to control the instrument, means that several areas of the brain are used simultaneously.

Listening to music is much more than just a hobby. Only by listening to music do we heal mind, body
and soul. Music becomes therapeutic even for those who create it. Imagine, playing an instrument
that allows you to isolate yourself from the world and dedicate yourself to art. Whether it's soft,
melancholy, fast or heavy, the music engages. So making music our hobby will do us more good.

Reasons to practice listening to music as a hobby

1. Reduces Pain: Listening to music has the ability to reduce pain by releasing endorphins that act as
natural painkillers. It can also divert pain and encourage relaxation. According to a study published in
the Journal of Advanced Nursing, listening to music every day can reduce chronic pain by up to 21%.
This study also found that people feel more in control of their pain when they hear the music.

2. Reduces Stress: Stress has been associated with many diseases, including many mental illnesses in
people with very high levels of stress. In a study conducted, people who listen to half an hour of
soothing music 2 times a day for 2 weeks, have shown significantly greater reductions in stress and
anxiety in these people.

3. Cardiovascular Benefits: Listening to music also helps reduce your heart rate and blood pressure.
It also reduces the risk of health problems. In a new Italian study, the researchers found that people
with mild hypertension (high blood pressure) who listened to classical, Celtic or Indian music (raga)
for only 30 minutes a day for a month had significant reductions in their blood pressure. Good music
helps calm the cells and tissues that make up the lungs that influence the patient's breathing and
heart rate.

4. Stimulates Brain Cells: Research has shown that music can stimulate brain waves to resonate in
sync with tempo, faster beats bringing sharper focus and alert thinking. On the other hand, listening
to soothing classical music improves the ability to concentrate for longer and promotes calm,
meditative state. Music causes a sense of well-being and creativity, a change that lasts long after the
music has stopped playing.

5. Increases physical performance: Listening to music while exercising can have a significant impact
on your exercise performance and engagement. Music diverts exhaustion and boredom. Music can
also act as a stimulant that can increase your performance. Breathing and heart rate are increased
from music that can help you intensify your workout. According to a study conducted in 2005,
listening to music while exercising boosts participants' weight loss and helped keep it consistent.

6. Promote a deep sleep: The soft music during sleep is effective for sleeping well. Sleep puts your
body in good health because it removes the effects of a person's stress, depression, and anxiety.

7. Increases optimism: depression leads to weakness, headaches, confusion and loss of
concentration. Music can also be used to achieve a more positive state of mind, helping to ward off
depression. Good music helps us remember happy times or good days of our past. It also increases
self-esteem and self-confidence.

8. Cancer Relief: Research suggests that music can offer a number of benefits for people who have
cancer. Music reduces anxiety in patients receiving radiation therapy and soothes the nausea and
vomiting associated with high-dose chemotherapy.

9. Help to socialize: Music is a great way to get together with people who share the same passion. It
helps you meet new people, socialize and give you a sense of belonging.

When a song gets you energized and rearing to go, you'll know it, and these are the types of songs
you probably naturally add to your workout playlist. For that matter, when a song makes you feel
relaxed, eases your anxiety or pain levels, or boosts your mood, you'll know it too, as selecting music
is a highly personal - and highly intuitive - process. In other words, only you know the "best" music
for you, and that will inevitably change - not only day to day with your mood but also over time with
the different chapters of your life.

For now, technology has given us a simple way to harness the power of music by allowing you to
create different playlists for exercising, relaxing, working and other important aspects of your day so
you can instantly access the right music for your mood or activity. You can also listen to music over
Internet radio using free services like Pandora, which will actually create stations for you based on
your musical tastes.

Whatever method you choose, making music your hobby and part of your lifestyle is a simple yet
powerful way to enhance your health and your life.

Music works wonders and is fundamental to a human being. So integrate music as a part of your
lifestyle, making it your hobby and feel the difference.
