Speedcubing as a Hobby

 

We all had one or at least we heard of the famous Rubik's Cube, there is a lot of information about its creator and the cube in general, but few know that there are speed competitions with Rubik's cube or rather with a high variety of cubes.

Rubik's cube was created in 1974 by Ernő Rubik, professor and inventor born in Hungary, who had the idea of developing a three-dimensional puzzle. The Rubik's cube has six different colored faces and is considered to be armed when each face has all the rows and columns of the same color.

 

What is Speedcubing?

The Speedcubing consists of solving some type of puzzle as fast as possible, being the most popular Rubik's cube, especially the 3x3x3 version.

There are variations with another number of squares per side. The main versions are the following: the 2 × 2 × 2 "Pocket Cube", the 3 × 3 × 3 the "Rubik's Cube", the 4 × 4 × 4 "Rubik's Revenge", the 5 × 5 × 5 " Professor Cube "and since September 2008 the 6 × 6 × 6" V-Cube 6 "and the 7 × 7 × 7" V-Cube 7 "So called by the company that brought them to the market.

 

WCA (World Cube Association)

The World Cube Association (also known as the WCA) is an organization that regulates and performs Speed Solving competitions. It was founded by Ron van Bruchem of the Netherlands and Tyson Mao of the United States.

 

The objective of the World Cube Association is to have more competitions in more countries with more people and more fun, in fair conditions.

 


How to Solve the Rubik's Cube?

There are many methods, from the most professional and complex to the use of a hammer. Of course, we will only use one tool, our mind.

The Beginner method is the most popular of all because its simplicity allows anyone with some practice to solve a cube in less than a minute
.
The concept of this method is to assemble the cube by levels, that is, first the bottom layer, then the middle layer and finally the top layer. It is the beginner method because it is the easiest to learn.

 


Benefits of Speedcubing

Experts agree that making logic puzzles is beneficial for both children and adults. In the case of the little ones, it improves their cognitive abilities and develops fine motor skills, while the adults manage to keep their brain active and it is also linked to the release of stress.

 

Although one of the most important points is at any age and it is the improvement of self-esteem at the end of a logic puzzle, in the case of the speedcubers who manage to finish the Rubik's cube in a shorter time than usual, it results in a feeling of euphoria that affects the mood of several hours.
